Farm Setup

Asked By: Quintin    Date: Nov 22    Category: MOSS    Views: 730

I am planning for implementation of MOSS 2007 with 5 servers Farm. In that 2
Servers we are planning to have as web frontends and 2 as SQL Server 2005
database(Planning for Clustering) and 1 server as Index server.
Any suggestions how to start the installations sequence.
I just installed the SQL Server 2005 on one server, if any specific settings for
Clustering purpose then please do let me know urgently.

I'd do it in this order:

1) Install SQL and cluster it. Make sure you use the correct
collation for SharePoint.

2) Install Index server. Turn on the WFE role. The order
probably isn't important if you do this or the WFEs first.

3) Install the WFEs.

4) Before you configure Search in your SSP verify the default AAM
is the site name, not a machine name. (i.e. http://www.example.com,
not http://wfe01)

5) When you configure Search tell it to use all WFEs for indexing.
Then go into the HOSTS file on the Index server and put an entry in for
your site but use your Index server's IP address. That way it will use
itself for crawling? Why not just specify it in the UI? There's some
funkiness for how that works. It takes the lowest IP address of the
machine for instance. All it's going to do is put an entry in your
HOSTS file anyway, so I do it manually.
