Farm Search Service Account

Asked By: Mindy Bishop         Date: Sep 24, 2009      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 354

The search service will run using this account. Setting or changing this
account affects all index and query servers in the server farm.

The farm search service account must not be a built-in account for
security reasons and for it to access the database and content index.
Examples of built-in accounts are Local Service and Network Service.

What rights does this account need in SharePoint and Windows?

It needs read access  to everything you plan to index. It needs this so
that it can read the files for indexing the content  and access/store the
ACLs for security trimming the search  query results.
