Farm Config Installation Error

Asked By: Antoinette    Date: Aug 09    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 835

Now this one is interesting. I tried to install SharePoint again on a
database with multiple instances. Previously installing against the
default instance I had no problems. Now I get the error:

#50071: Unable to connect to the database SharePoint_AdminContent_

Through several searches, I've seen this error in a lot of places, but
nobody had a solution. This might help:

Using as the database server the instance "sqlinstance" which is bound
to (-I'm not current on database jargon, so I'm going to make up a
phrase attempting to explain it-) a ??virtualized instance hostname??,
SharePoint configuration connects just fine for the first 2 steps. It
can create the FarmConfig database and add tables to it, as well as
create SharePoint_AdminContent and add tables to it.

Step 3 throws the exception above.

BUT if I use host\instance name "sqlinstance\sqlinstance" installation
completes just fine.

Has anybody else seen this?
