False Alerts

Asked By: Keaton    Date: Nov 30    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 750

I have an issue where portal users are complaining that they are
receiving Alert Emails for Announcements that were changed two months
ago. The emails are not old since they have today's date on them. But
for some reason, the system thinks that the Announcements
were "changed" by the same user who posted them.
It seems that all these problems started when we installed the Win 2k3
Server Service Pack 1 and SPS SP2.

Has anyone seen this problem?

Did you reset the content index??????????

This used to be an issue  in SPS2001 when Full indexes were run. All the old notifications would re-fire, but this was to have been fixed in this release. Are the notifications being generated only when a Full index is being performed?

No, the false alerts  happened when we do an incremental index as well.

Will resetting the content index help?

Can’t hurt. I’d reset it and see what happens. Be ready, however, all the content sources that write to that index will need to perform new, full index builds in order to repopulate the index.
