Asked By: Keaton    Date: Jan 14    Category: MOSS    Views: 784

I have successfully installed MOSS within a test environment on my laptop, but when I try and install in a test environment at work,

I receive the following error. Any suggestions?

Did you mean to attach a screenshot of your error? I don't see it.

This was a pain for a LONG time for me. My guess is you used NEWSID by SysInternals.com or SYSPREP from the Windows Resource Kit. If you used the former… well don’t. NEWSID doesn’t do everything you need it to do.

Use SYSPREP to prep the box, then you’ll have to fix the ACL permissions on a specific registry key that Angus has documented here:

I’ve duplicated the problem installing  MOSS 2007 B2 and the fix in Angus blog fixes it.

What does the log file have in it?

Looks like it comes down to an error  caused by the SID, and a registry entry.

The error is System.InvalidOperationException: This access control list is not in canonical form and therefore cannot be modified.

A Google search with the above error returned this site as the top hit.

so, if am reading this correctly I need to reset the SID, and apply the fix to the registry. I can send the error file, but felt it was rather long to post here.
