Extranet Setup

Asked By: Katlyn    Date: Dec 05    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 698

I'm setting up an Extranet and I've found something interesting that I
wanted to confirm / share with the group. I have multiple Web
Applications , all with SSL, that are managed using Alternate Access
Mappings. So I have a few different DNS names pointing to the same
public IP address. SharePoint is routing them to the proper Web
Application based on the name.

The interesting thing is: the firewall is only seeing traffic on port
443 (default for SSL). I guess I assumed that SharePoint would route the
requests to the appropriate web application based on its port number and
that the traffic would continue on that port. Instead it looks like the
port numbers are only used locally on the box and the client gets all
its traffic on 443.

That actually makes it much easier for the security group - and for me
because it takes an act of Congress to get a port opened up around here.

Is this the behavior you would expect?
