Extranet Scenario

Asked By: Abhishek    Date: Mar 30    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1412

I have one backup SPS server in Domain 'A'. I have shifted
my production server from Domain 'A' to Demilitarlized
zone of our company for extranet users.

I noticed two things while working with the production
server.

1. If i login with my NTLM credentials in the production
server, it does not show me the workspace. So i added a
network place for the workspace on the same machine. Then
the workspace started showing up. Then i tried to navigate
the workspace and it was always asking me for NTLM
authentication !

Note 1: I have administrators right on the production
server.
Note 2: I have co-ordinator access for the workspace on
the production server.
Note 3: I am using "Basic Authentication" security
mechanism on the production server.

How can i suppress the authentications ?

2. I took backup of the SPS on the productaion server
which is in the DMZ of our n/w. I didn't specify
the "username/password" before taking the backup.
Now i want to restore this to a machine on Domain 'A. When
i tried restoring, it gave me an error " Access Denied"

has anybody come across the same thing before ?
has anybody the same setup scenario as mine ?

In order to implement extranet/internet scenarios for sps  - try to read
MS whitepaper about it or just use spsextranet.wsf utility from SPS
Resource Kit - you can get it here
www.microsoft.com/.../spsextranet.asp
It's easy to use.

Along with reading the extranet  whitepaper, keep in mind that you can not load
SPS on a server  and then move the server from one domain  to another. You will
always get the authentication box when you do. SPS loads with default
permissions based on the domain it is in when it is loaded.

Also, you can not make backups from one domain and restore to a different one
for the same reason.
