External Storage API for SharePoint

Asked By: Jameson    Date: Sep 10    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1133

I am scanning a huge amounts of documents and I would like to have them
under SharePoint document management. For this purpose I would rather
use External Storage API for SharePoint than SQL Server. The only info
about External Storage API that I have been able to found is the support
fix (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938499/
<http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938499/> ). Does anybody know where I
can find additional info about how to plan, design and use it?

The External API is actually a COM interface that sits
within SharePoint. When it is enabled you will still need to write a
provider for using it. This will allow you to override the "Open" and "Save"
commands within SharePoint and utilise the "Saving to Disk" kind of idea.
There is not an other information out there and definitely no code samples
yet. Watch this space.
