Exporting a site without it's subsites

Asked By: Melanie    Date: Jun 10    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 4461

Under WSS 2.0 you could use Smigrate to export just a site, but not it's
subsites. Is there anyway to do this in wss v3.0?

'stsadm.exe -o export  | import' replaced smigrate.exe.

you can run stsadm.exe -help export for a list of parameters. you can also
download a 60 page whitepaper for free from Mindsharp's premium content area at
www.mindsharp.com

I know that.

BUT with stsadm -o export  you CAN NOT export just a site  without it's
sub-sites. From my research It seems this is possible using the API, but I'm
not a coder.

Has anyone seen any 3rd party stsadm extensions that support doing a site export
sans the sub-sites? Googling for this has been extremely frustrating =/

SharePoint Designer includes a menu option site  > Administration >
Backup Web Site...

This is exactly the same as stsadm -o export  (uses the same APIs
under the covers), except:

* The export file(s) are downloaded through the network to the
user's desktop
* The user has the option to include or exclude sub-sites
* The user does not have the option to include security

Unfortunately I need something I can use from the
command line. As my client has about 300 sites that need to be moved around,
and an unknown number of those have to be seperated from their subsites.

Looks like you'll need custom code then, or you could always just export
with subsites  and use "stsadm -o deleteweb" to delete the ones you don't
need after you import/restore in the new location...
