export/import document versions problem

Asked By: Darius    Date: May 06    Category: MOSS    Views: 2312

I used the stsadm export/import whith -version 4 (include all versions)
to move a site, and I've got the following problem:

The versions history for documents is wrong in the new site. i.e. :

Document A before export:

v1 by Author "X" date "Date 1" ; v2 by Author "Y" and date "Date 2"; v3
by Author "W" and date "Date 3"

Document A after export/import:

v1 by Author "W" date "Date 3" ; v2 by Author "W" date "Date 3"; v3 by
Author "W" date "Date 3"

All versions get the Author and Date of the last version before the
export/import.

I have MOSS2007 with SP1.

Any clues?

Sorry for insisting, but does anyone know about this behavior? Is
this normal?

That is normal behavior. Import/Export isn't the same as
Backup/Restore. Export is used to make a Template of a site  with
Content. When you Import it to create a new site all the metadata gets
set to the System and the current date  as NEW content.

So, should I use backup/restore to move  a site  from one location to
other (inside the same MOSS)?

The scenario is this: I did perform a Database Migration from SP2003 to
MOSS. Everything worked fine.
Now I have (as I should) SP2003 Areas as MOSS Portal sub-sites, and
SP2003 TeamSites as MOSS site collections. As you know, the site
collection does not appear in a "fashion" manner in the Portal:
automatic links, aggregator webparts, manager content and structure …

We don't have a very big Intranet, so I would like to have all sites
available in the same meaner from the Portal. That's why I decided to
move them. It would be very important that they stay consistent.

Unfortunately, you can't backup/Restore an individual site, only a site
collection.

The strange thing about these is that the "modified" and "created"
dates stay untouched as they were before the export/import. They do
not get new dates (as in new data).
Only the version  dates change but they don't get the import date,
they all get the last version date.

Do you know why?
