Using an exe in site

  Asked By: Bhavini    Date: Oct 19    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 828

Novice in sharepoint so please excuse, our dept. is finally getting into the present and IT solutions are strange to the fire service. My question being: can an .exe be launched from a sharepoint site?? I understand exe's would have to be taken out of the excluded listing.

Thanks

Yes, You can execute .exe file from sharepoint.

Step 1:

Make IE security setting... on your browser as follow.

Client settings:

1 From internet explorer menu select: "Tools-> options"
2 In the opened window select tab "Security"
3 Select icon of relevant zone and press button "Custom level"
4 Set option "Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe" in group "ActiveX controls and plug-ins" to enabled.

Step 2:

You could try this

Code Snippet
<SCRIPT Language="javascript">
function launchApp() {
appPath ="C:\\Windows\\system32\\notepad.exe";
WSH = new ActiveXObject("WScript.Shell");
WSH.run(appPath);
}
</SCRIPT>

<A href="#" onClick="launchApp(); return false;">Launch NotePad from a Browser</A>

You will get the normal ActiveX warnings but as this is internal you could look at getting the site  as trusted globally.
