Excel and Word documents in a Sharepoint Doc Library

I was wondering if it was possible to force all word and excel
documents to show within the web browser and not in the authoring
application.

I tried saving the documents as webpages, but did not like the results
and our parent company does not have shared workspaces enabled.

Office 2003 with Sharepoint 2003

I don't think you can do this with 2003. SP 2007 has a built-in Office
(2007) integration feature that allows you to specify this behavior on a
per-library basis.
