Error uploading site templates

Asked By: Parvesh    Date: Jul 28    Category: MOSS    Views: 7022

I'm attempting to add the .STP files as site templates to my MOSS
2007
server from the pack of "40 Additional Templates" from Microsoft.

I've tried both going to the Site Template Gallery and uploading the
various
.STP files, and using an import from SharePoint Designer.

Both fail, and I've got no idea why.

SharePoint 2007 (MOSS) gives me a new page with:

"ERROR: Unable to complete this operation."

and SharePoint Designer 2007 gives me:

"Unable to complete this operation. Contact your system administrator."

For some reason, in the back of my mind, it reminds me of a premissions
issue... but I'm current in as THE sharepoint administration account,
which
is also a local admin.

Any help on this matter would be greatly appricated, and, if you are in
the
DC area, it's even worth drinks at one of the local establishments!

They need to be added as solutions. Take a look at Application Templates Core
Solution
APPLICATION TEMPLATES FOR WINDOWS sharepoint  SERVICES 3.0

=========================================================

To install the Application template  Core solution:
=========================================================

To deploy the Application Template Core solution on a
server running Windows SharePoint Services, follow these
instructions.

Note: To complete the following installation, you must
have Administrator rights to both the Windows SharePoint
Services site  and server on which it is to be installed.

1. Download the solution EXE file to your computer.
2. Run the EXE file to unpack the template file to a
location on your computer.
3. Select the solution file, ApplicationTemplateCore.wsp,
from the extracted distribution. This solution file
will be added to the Windows SharePoint Services
solution store.
4. Via command line, run "stsadm -o addsolution -filename
ApplicationTemplateCore.wsp"
5. Next, run "stsadm -o deploysolution -name
ApplicationTemplateCore.wsp -allowgacdeployment".
Additional attributes may be required based on your
Windows SharePoint Services configuration.
6. Finally, run stsadm -o copyappbincontent
7. The Application Template Core solution has now been
added to the solution store, and deployed on the server.

You know, I tried that, but it's giving me an error.

So the .WSP applications are installed and working fine, but when I
attempt to do that with the .STP files  I get:

"casemanagement.stp" has an unsupported extension, and cannot be added
to the solution store.

This is why I assumed I'm supposed to add  them to the Top-Level site...

Any thoughts?

I'm running STSADM.EXE from the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft
Shared\web server extensions\12\BIN folder, and all of the templates  are
in a temp folder.

I ran into this and solved it by cd c:\(where ever you unzipped the
template files) and then running stsadm from within that file. Not
sure why I had to do it that way, I had changed the environmental to
allow stsadm to be run anywhere. Try changing directly into the file
then running stsadm.

It turned out that somehow there was a TLog size limit established on
the SQL 2000 server. So that caused the SITE_DB to go into read only
mode since it's TLog was full.

....and, as is normal, sharepoint  started to display odd behavior and
errors. Of which not being able to add  the .STP templates  was one of
them...
