Error restoring site via Sharepoint Designer

Asked By: Eve    Date: Dec 30    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 2983

We have created a backup of a subsite via sharepoint designer and
wants to restore it into a sitecollection.

The new site is created with the same template, but when we try to
restore we get an error sayint: "You need to restore to an empty site"

What are we doing wrong?

Presumably, you have a SPD Content Migration Package (CMP) file. If so,
you can restore  it to a Blank site.

Navigate to your destination and create a new Blank site  there. Then,
use SPD to restore the CMP backup  over the Blank site.

Okay, then I got a bit further. Got a blank site, I have created  my
backup, but when I try o restore  it is giving me a new error:

Error occurred while importing the web
Could not find file C:\\windows\temp\folder\ExportSettings.XML

Again google is not helping. Can see that I am not the only one with
the error, but no soluion to be found. But I am sure that one of you
can help me out...

Most likely the backup  file size is > 25 MB. Try this link:

This makes our next migration project so much easier
because we have a sitecollection  we need to split up and now we can
do it without loosing the users permisssions..

The new site  should be created  using the blank site template. Give
that a try.
