error creating database

  Asked By: Keaton    Date: Jul 30    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 669

I’m in the process of creating a test environment, the WSS install goes fine, but when the configuration screen opens, I received the following error;

Login failed for user 'HOMEA\HQVGSPSDN1$'. (Error code: 18456).

Any ideas on the cause, and how to remedy the situation?

Looks like a SQL error  make sure that the account you are using for WSS has SQL admin privileges

Just to make sure, will local admin rights work, or does the install  require domain admin rights?

Option C: the user  must have DBOwner rights on the specified database. If the database  is on the same server as sharepoint, then having local admin priviledges should do the trick.

Finally found the problem. IIS was using it’s default user  name instead of the account I had created in SQL. After putting in the correct information, the rest of the install  went without a problem.
