Error adding new server to farm

Asked By: Tami    Date: Mar 21    Category: MOSS    Views: 1853

I am having trouble adding a new server our current MOSS 2007 farm

After running the installation and going to configuration wizard I get
an error connecting to the database.
I confirmed that the username and password are correct as they are
what in use for the current farm and i can connect as that user both
to the SQL DB and the Server.

When I check the the security for the SQL DB the spadmin (sharepoint
admin account) is not there but when on checking the global security
for the database it does have access to is but is under the heading dbo.

When i try to add the account i get the error on the database that
there is already another account using the same credentials and gives
an error.

This is the error log i get when i run the configuration wizard. The
error on the SQL back end says:

10/22/2008 18:43:18,Logon,Unknown,Login failed for user 'NT
AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'

Suffice to say i am a little stumped. Anyone had any problem like this.

What service account are you using for your farm, and is your SQL server
local or remote?

I recently had the same issue. First you need to make sure that you are able to
telnet to the SQL server  on port 1433. I am hoping your sql server is configured
with the default port. If no problem there, then you need to add your server to
SQL. For ex, domain\servername$. You will then assign DBO rights to schema and
to the database to all of the databases that are part of your farm. Then run the
installation, it should let you complete your installation. If not, you will see
errors in the event viewer related to not having access to any given database.

I got it sorted,
The drive has to be setup the same way as the other servers.
the new server  has no drive d:. I had to turn on verbose errors to
catch this. It was not necessarily a SQL error. It was tying to create
the directory on the d:drive.

I still ran into an error  had to add the Sharepoint admin account as
owner to the install directory. Which fixed the next another problem.

Now i have a new problem. The new Sharepoint server has sp1 which was
slip streamed in the upgrade so i have to go update the old servers
now.
