Encrypted List Web Part?

Our small group has a need to maintain a password/login db for our own
servers/web products/software we have purchased. There's some nice open
source options out there, but was wondering if maybe this is something
we could just do within sharepoint.

We could easily make a list and use that, and it would be relatively
secure (using Sharepoint's own AD permissions to access the site). That
said, I was wondering if there's a way to encrypt a particular list
within Sharepoint to add that extra layer of protection? Or am I just
asking for trouble trying to do this within sharepoint?

There's no particular way to encrypt a list  that I know of, but if you
have MOSS you might want to take a look at the Single Sign On Service.
It's normally designed to store credentials in an encrypted  database so
they can be retrieved and passed directly to an external application.
But since there is an administrative interface and the backend database
is already encrypted it might serve the purpose. The credentials can be
