Enabled PDF icon, now DOCX won't display....

  Asked By: Loretta    Date: Jan 20    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 2787

This is an odd one. I've got PDF and MP3 files displaying icons in my document
libraries just fine by editing the XML and adding the image in the 12-hive. But,
now I noticed that my Office documents don't display an icon. What did I break?
Any ideas?

Did you check the XML and icon  list for the docx  info?

Did you copy the xml  file somewhere from the internet and replaced or made the
changes in existing XML file manually ? Some blogs over the internet have old
xml files  which does not work with new docx  icons.

check the XML file and make changes manually.

I had forgotten that I had run a script
that reported an automated process for updating the files. I went and looked at
my backups and sure enough the script started with their own copy of the XML
file as opposed to modifying my existing file. Once I copied the old one back
and added my updates [manually this time] all icons  were working as expected.
Thanks! the tip...your suggestion is what got me thinking. The lesson
here...cutting corners to save some time up front could cost you in the long

On the INDEX and my (2) WFE, I inserted the following line:

<Mapping Key="pdf" Value="pdf16.gif"/>
<Mapping Key="png" Value="icpng.gif"/>

I included the 'png' line as what was already there when I got started. I used
that as my model. Again, the pdf  and MP3 icons  show fine. I've broken the MS
Office ones and they are listed at the top of the file. Let me include their
lines too for reference:

<Mapping Key="docx" Value="icdocx.gif" EditText="Microsoft Office Word"
OpenControl="SharePoint.OpenDocuments"/> (Yes. I confirmed that the images do
exist in the /images folder.)
