Email limits

I have a user that is trying to send email to other users within his site but it
errors out everytime he selects more than 8 users. The length of the names
doesn't seem to matter. His email client will open with 8 users but errors out
at 9 users. Can somebody please explain?

How long are these email addresses? This sounds similar to a URL-length
restriction problem I've seen with mailto links.

I did read up on an article that states that there is a limitation in IE with
2048 characters but was not able to tie this together with putting the email
addresses into outlook or lotus notes. Is IE erroring out due to the character
limitation before it gets to the mail client?
