On our dev site, we recently enabled emailing to lists to test out this feature.
Today I tried testing it on some announcements lists, and found an undesirable
side effect.
Our announcement lists on our "public" sites have event handlers set to allow
for "copying" certain announcements to a portal-level roll-up announcements
list. That is used for our company news.
I had hoped to add a new option to email to announcements lists, but when I
tested it, the following occured:
- I enabled email on a list
- I emailed a message to the list
- everything worked as planned, and the new list item appeared in the list
- I went into the item in the list and edited it to "copy" to our homepage (a
special site column we have rigged with an event handler to copy the
announcement to our roll-up announcements list)
- nothing was copied to our homepage
- in addition to this, I added a new item directly in the list and checked the
box to add to our homepage. That also was not added to the homepage.
So, to me it looks like our event handler works just fine, but as soon as I
enable email on the list, the event handler seems to stop working. I tested a
couple different scenarios, all leading me to this conclusion. Has anyone else
seen something similar, or should I contact the guy who developed our special
"roll-up" event handler?
