ECTS after the fact

Asked By: Shasta    Date: Jun 19    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 915

Has anyone tried installing ECTS after you already have a Sharepoint extranet configured? I came across this software, but I already have the database, SSP's, and ADAM configured. Do I need to scrap it and start over?

The only snag you may run into is with the ADAM instance. If you've already created an instance in ADAM and loaded in accounts, you may have to do some work to move the accounts over. The ECTS install will create a new ADAM instance and extend the schema with some ECTS specific properties. Therefore, it can't really use an existing instance.

Otherwise, you should be fine. In general, the installation steps are:
Install ADAM, but don't create an instance
Install your SharePoint server as normal
Setup your web application for internal users to access.
Extend that web application into a new zone for external users to access. Configure that zone for FBA that uses the ADAM membership provider.
Install the ECTS solution into your SharePoint environment.
If you need to, install and SSL certificate for the external access URL.
