I believe this is not possible. We search at length and couldn't find
way to do so

One way would be to use a sendmail server with rewrite rules so the FROM
gets mangled to whatever you want it to. The flow would be

SPS server --> SMTP mail --> sendmail server --> parses and changes the
FROM --> SMTP mail --> end user

I don't know what to put in the sendmail.cf or other files on the
sendmail server to do this, but you might want to start with
http://www.sendmail.org/virtual-hosting.html on how to configure.

If you don't have unix(r) in your shop, you can still get sendmail for

Open Management Dashboard, click on Workspace Settings link. That should open
the Management web folder. Click on 'Workspace Settings' and in the general tab
yyou should see the email address.

I think the problem is that they want to change the FROM address, not
the REPLY-TO. When sharepoint sends an email, the FROM address turns
out to be workspace@server, like this example:

Microsoft Mail Internet Headers Version 2.0
Received: from spsserver ([192.168.888.32]) by smtp.domain.com with
Microsoft SMTPSVC(5.0.2195.5329);

Reply-To: <email@...>
From: <workspace@SPSSERVER>
Sender: <email@...>

When you change what you described below, it only changes the Reply-To
header and the Sender header (as exampled above -- it has
email@... in the workspace settings), not the From:

sendmail has rewrite rules such that the server (smtp.domain.com as
above) can mangle the from to change it to something else.
