Dynamic DataView Webpart

Asked By: Beth    Date: Mar 27    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1472

Does anyone know how to create a view that will allow only current and
recently posted/modified messages to be displayed in a web part,
particularly announcements? I understand using the filter to base a
modified document less than or equal to today, but how do I make it
dynamic in that it can be limited to the last [# of days] to relate to
current date? I am assuming using designer, but have not been able to
find a formula, am I overthinking this one?

The announcement listview does something similar to this automatically.
There is an expiration date  on each announcement. The default view  of
the announcement listview will only show announcements  until they
expire. Either train users to always supply an expiration date or
create an Event Handler that will set it automatically using a time
range, if the user doesn't to something like Now +3 days.

Since the default listviews only show data already in the list, and
calculated columns are only calculated when a record is created or
modified there is no way to get the default listviews to apply a dynamic
filter. You could of course create  a custom webpart  that would have the
ability to filter  in that fashion, but not the default ones.

Thank you for the quick reponse. SharePoint Designer books being
delivered on the 11th, have to go that route. FrontPage locks up the
sites, might be the proprietary versions or our network. Either are
entirely possible at this point. Has anyone had any "debug or
close" .dll errors when both applications are installed?
