.dwg engineering files and search

Asked By: Morgan    Date: Nov 29    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1379

Is there a way to get .dwg files to be recognized and available as a
document through sps search? Anybody done this before?

I have no idea about those files, but I would try something similar to getting a PDF file to function in the portal. You should be able to do a search  and figure out how to get PDF files  to be searchable in the portal. I would try something similar to this. You will most likely need some type of IFilter installed on your indexing server.

We are in the process of repositioning the sharepointknowledge.com site
(watch for it in the coming weeks). Consequently, we haven't kept that site
as current as we normally would.

So, the link for a DWG IFilter is a little aged. The link should be:
www.cadcompany.nl/.../dwg+ifilter/

I also found this one:
www.imtechnical.com/solutions_ifilters_main.htm

IFilterShop has a DWF IFilter:
http://www.ifiltershop.com/dwffilter.html

This may also be of use (I didn't look at it myself):
http://www.fehq.org/public/ExtractText.zip

I was surprised that Autodesk didn't have an IFilter on their Website, so I
called their customer service directly. They told me that they do not have
an IFilter for their AutoCAD product. :(

Actually, I don't use AutoCAD (that's the reason that I didn't initially
recognize the DWG extension) so I can't personally vouch for any of these.
