DVWP converted from List view web part

Asked By: Shasta    Date: Jul 17    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1741

We all know we can export a dVWP (which display a sharepoint list)and
then import it to any other site in the collection. Follwoing the same idea, I
convert a list view web part into a xslt DVWP. I thought I can export and then
import it to a different site, but only found error. I can only import it to a
different page on the same site.

is there a workaround to this or what I missed?

If we could see the error  message, we might have more useful input.

The error  message is very generic:

Unable to display  this Web Part. To troubleshoot the problem, open this Web page
in a Windows SharePoint Services-compatible HTML editor such as Microsoft Office
SharePoint Designer. If the problem persists, contact your Web server
administrator.

It only happens when I imported it to a different site. works fine within the
same page  where the list  exists.

is this site  within the same site collection? If not, then I'd say
that's the problem. Otherwise, it's possible that the DVWP is referring
to the list  by name instead of by GUID.

Are there any pertinent details to be found  in the SharePoint logs?

Actually, I think this will only work in the same site  - even within the
same site collection  I've needed to use a web  service connection for a
DVWP connection to a list  in another site.
