Duplicate conflicting e-mails from workflow

Asked By: Brendan    Date: Feb 12    Category: MOSS    Views: 2617

I am using the ootb approvals workflow in a MOSS environment. Everything seems
to be working okay, with the exception of the e-mail that is sent when the
approval task is assigned. For some reason, I get two identical and conflicting
e-mails from the SharePoint server. Although this doesn't always happen, it is
about 95% of the time that it does. Has anyone run into this before?

What do you mean by "conflicting" in this case?

In my outlook client, (2007, but this also happens in Outlook 2003) I get the
e-mail for the approval task, but it is followed almost immediately by another
e-mail, (I think.) I get the conflict warning symbol, and the message,
"Conflict Message: Conflicting edits were made to this item. Open the item to
resolve this conflict." If I open the message, I get a choice to keep one or
both e-mail  messages. "Conflicting edits have been made to this item. To
resolve the conflict, select the item in the list below that you wish to keep
and then choose "Keep This Item", or choose "Keep All" to preserve all the
versions." Both of them are identical in every way. I have our system
administrator looking into whether this is an e-mail server  issue also, but he
is not finding a problem.

Well, after our Sys Admin checked the mail logs, he is seeing that SharePoint is
generating both e-mails  within milliseconds of each other. My problem is that
there are two e-mails generated. Technically there should be only one. I'm
still looking for a solution to the cause of this.
