I asked a question not too long ago, and I may have found a source for a
solution. We have an issue where some of our external users may need to
download more than one document at a time for their records. Initially the only
options offered were to possibly create a zip file. As I was tinkering around
on our development server, I think I may have found an answer. In a picture
library, there is an option in the actions menu to "Download (Copy pictures from
this library to your computer.)" I was just tinkering and it appears to work
whether the file is an image or not. The page that handles this action is in
the _layouts directory; dladvopt.aspx . I was hoping that there was some way to
trim this code some so that instead of giving the multiple picture options, it
simply brings up the download tool to select where the files should go on the
local machine, and then add it as a view or an action in a plain document
library. I don't know
enough about javascript to tinker this one out myself, although I am going to
try. I figure the experts will have a solution faster than I will though.
(Another option that I may try, although it's probably not a good idea, it to
make every document library I have an image library that contains this
functionality.) I really look forward to seeing input from the group on this.
I hope this points to a feasible solution.
