does sharepoint webparts 2.0 work with sql server 2008 reports?

Asked By: Michael    Date: May 01    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1110

I followed the instructions here:
technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms159772.aspx

To install the report viewer webpart. I got the RSWebParts.cab from a sql server 2005 install. It works great but now I'd like to try some sql server 2008 reports. I assume this would work without me having to do anything else to the sharepoint server but just want to make sure before I go about trying to install ss2008.

This should probably be posted over in the BI forum.

I have heard some people that are using the old 2.0 web parts have some issues with rendering SSRS reports  in Native Mode. I would definitely do some work  on a development machine or test server  prior to working with the 2.0 Web Parts against 2008 RDL files.

If you are looking for integration between SharePoint and SSRS, I'd really recommend setting up an instance of SSRS in SharePoint Integrated Mode (if possible) and hosting your reports in SharePoint using the "newer, more supported way". Information regarding what that involves can be found here.
