Does the issue with customizing the MPS Site Definition still exist

I remember reading the issues with creating a Custom Site Definition
based on the MPS Site Definition in SPS 2003. Do the same issues exist
in MOSS 2007 regarding the hard coded template ID values within the
CustomToolPaneManager and PageTabsWebPart webparts?

I have a customer requirement which requires a customization of the
Multipage Meeting Workspace site template. I'd like to make sure that
the Solution I develop maintains supportability if possible.

Any suggestions?
