Write only documents

Asked By: Madhu    Date: Jan 15    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 2017

We have a situation where we want people to be able to deposit a document in a
document library, but not be able to read any of the other documents in the
library. There are two possible scenarios, either of which would work for us -
a user can write to the document library but not read ANY document, and the
second scenario is the user can write to a library, but can only read documents
written by that user to the library.
On thought - would this be possible by mail-enabling the library and then have
users put documents into the library by mailing them to the library?
I would think that this capability might be desirable for the real estate
application that has been under discussion as of late.

Two possibilities:

1) You can do an easy Event Handler that modifies the security of a document
when it is added to the library  so that only the owner has RW access and the
members group for the site has ReadOnly or no Access. You can't remove an
owner's RW access to a document. See my blog for an example of how to set
permissions on an item via an event handler:

2) You could mail enable the library. Documents sent by mail would be owned
by the system. If you change the library's default permissions so that
everyone else is ReadOnly then even the original author wouldn't have access
since the owner would be the system account.
