Document Workspaces and Multiple Links

Figured while I was posting one question, why not post another...

We all know that it is possible to build a document workspace from a
document, which "links" the document in the workspace to its
original document in a library. However, most teams work on multiple
documents (say, for instance, drawings, quotes, and technical
documents) for a project.

My question is, if you can link one document to its "published"
version from a workspace, how can you link multiple documents to
their corresponding document in the library? I have looked briefly
at this, but cannot determine whether it is a flag that gets set in
the database or if it is metadata that gets assigned to a document.

It also seems that the notion of creating a document workspace is
not exclusive, that is, you can create two separate workspaces from
the same document. Both of the workspaces can publish back to the
original library....

Any ideas?
