Document Search

Asked By: Corey    Date: Jun 01    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 554

I just want to know is there a way to have a search for a
particular document library. Currently we have a search function on top
level, for the entire portal. But I would like to know how to create a
search function for a particular document library that search documents
and inner contents of the documents as well.Is there any good 3rd party
webparts available?

There are various ways to achieve this out of the box - by scoping your
searches. First you could use Advanced search  and specify the URL
property of your document  library. Second you could create  a content
source that only includes that document library  and then include it in a
search scope. Third you could can a search by passing parameters the
search.aspx page (this is easy to do if you already have a search that
works since you can then save the search to your MyLinks and then copy
the resultant URL).

If your document library is in a WSS team site then the out of the box
search (SQL search) actually does what you want as well.

Lastly you could write your own Web Part as there are API calls to call
the search service and to search items.

All of the above is documented in the Admin Guides and SDK.
