Document permissions

Asked By: Elliot    Date: Jan 15    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 6772

I am aware that Sharepoint does not allow permissions on a document
level, however can anyone suggest a work around for my problem. I
have 3 groups each who have permission to view their own docs only.
However I have some docs which I want all groups to be able to view.
How can I do this without posting the same doc 3 times?

You'll need four document  libraries: one for each group that should be
viewed individually and another for the group that should be viewed by

If only it was that easy... I also have docs  that I would like 1 & 2
to see, or 2 & 3 or 1 & 3 etc etc (there is a total of 5), so as you
can see it could get quite hairy. One idea I have been looking at
would be to post all docs in one group, then assigning permissions  on
the document  profile... not really secure I know, but do you think
this could be an option?

What you're doing at that point is using different views to secure
documents - views that can easily be change by the readers themselves.

Unfortunately, for each unique set of permissions, you'll need a
different doc  lib. I don't know of any way around this.

Is it true that that document  level security/permissions is going to be
enabled with the next release?

This is one of the loudest pain points that customers are yelping about.
I can't imagine that they *won't* include this in the next release.
