Document Links to a file on a network share

Asked By: Tanesha    Date: Dec 13    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 7667

I have not worked a great deal with Content Types and I wanted to know if
there is a way to link to a file on a network file share within a document
library? I used the "Document Links" content type but that will only allow me to
link to "http" or "https".

You can also use file://fileshare.fqdn.com/folderpath/filename.extension

The link  to document  content type  doesn't accept the File:// prefix.
You can only use http:// or https://.

No problem. I only know it doesn't because I had tried it in the past
thinking it should accept File:// like a linked list would and was
suprised when it wouldn't work.
