Document Library - View Versions Permissions

Asked By: Gaurang Akki         Date: Jan 06, 2007      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 329

I was wondering if there was a way to prevent certain users from
viewing all versions of a document. There are some users that I only
want to let them see the most recent major version. All other versions
should be hidden. I tried the option to use minor and major versions
but that has its own issues. I was wondering if there was a way to
restrict users to viewing only the last version and not see a history
of the other version that was checked in.

You can take care of this by creating a custom Permission Level. The
ability to view  versions in a document  library is a specific permission.
Just create a new permission level that has all the permissions  of the
current assigned permission level, but without the View Versions
permission. Then re-assign those people to a group that has the new
permission level. They will have all the rights they used to have
except the ability to view versions.

Thanks very much. Can't believe I didn't know about permission
levels before this. I've been setting permissions  directly on
objects. Duh. You forced me to seek this out!

Once again, thanks very much!
