Document Library Permissions

Asked By: Alex Barnes         Date: May 20, 2004      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 337

I can edit a document only when I open it on the PC that I used to
upload the document. When I sign to another PC, the document can
only be opened as Read Only. Other users that are supposed to have
edit permissions get Read Only as well, unless they use my PC. Do I
need to change some setting in Word 2003?
SPS is loaded on Server 2003.

It's not about which PC is being used, it's about implicit and explicit
check outs. If the document  is opened  by another user, then yes, the
document is locked and others can only open  in read-only mode.

Yes, but that's not happening. I logged on with the same account on
two PCs. On the first, I click 'Edit in Word' and it opens in Read
Only. I close the file and immediately click 'Edit in Word' on the
second PC, and it opens in edit  mode. Both have the same version of
Word and problem is not specific to a document  or library. It seems
that I can only edit from one PC.
