Document Library Lookup

Asked By: Imran    Date: Feb 06    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1157

I have a lookup field to one of my document lib's. The lookup dropdown will not
display non office file types (.pdf, .txt, etc). Is there a setting I can change
to allow these files to show up.

I have found that if I use the document  id, instead of the title all id's show
up in the lookup  field. When I choose Title only the Microsoft Office document
type titles show  up. Can anyone replicate this?

"Title" is a standard metadata column in the library. When you upload an MS
Office file, SharePoint automatically reads the "Title" document  property and
puts it into the "Title" column in the library. (It will do this for any
document property in the file  that has a matching column in the library  - it's
called "property promotion".) If you upload another type of file (e.g. pdf), the
"Title" column will remain empty unless the user puts something into it.

One option would be to make the "Title" column required in the library. Users
would then be forced to enter a value there before they could check in
documents.

Or else use a different column in the library as the lookup.
