Document Library and Folders Permissions in Sharepoint 3.0/MOSS2007

Asked By: Brendon Summers         Date: Jun 21, 2008      Category: MOSS      Views: 1374

I am running MOSS 2007/Sharepoint 3.0. I am having a permissions
problem. I created a number of standard sites (tabs across the top)
then added a couple of document libraries, below each of the libraries
created folders for different type of documents. The problem is when I
can assign permissions at the document library without a problem. When
i go to assign individual permissions at the folder level below the
document library I cann't assing permissions to individual people. The
inherit permissions is off at all levels.

What am I missing? I thought with Sharepoint 3.0 you could sign
permissions to everyone at the document library and restrict
permissions at the folder level. Is this correct?

Why do you say you can't assign permissions  to individual  users? Select manage
permissions from the context menu of the folder. Then Select Edit permissions
from the Action menu. You should now see an New menu with Add Users. Select
that to add a user to the folder  and assign  a permission level  to the person.

What I kept doing iswhen you select the
folder inside a Document Library, select the option Settings -->
Document Library Settings I am changingthe permissionsat the Document
Library level  all the time, ehnce giving and taking away permissions
for indiviudals under the entire Docuemnt Library. I just figured
out that I have to use the drop down menu on the folder  and Manage
Permissions via that meu to manage the individual permissions  at the
folder level.

I think I was having a bad day with this one. So simple.
