Document library with a doc and a pic

Asked By: Bob    Date: Aug 08    Category: MOSS    Views: 1003

In MOSS 2007 I have a document library where we have uploaded a bunch of
pdf's which are miracle stories of our children. We are in the process
of creating a webpart that rotates these stories on our main page.
However somehow I need to associate a picture and a teaser paragraph
with the pdf. The webpart will display the thumbnail pic with the
teaser paragraph and will be linked to the pdf for the full story.

The easy way out is to create a separate pic library with the teaser
paragraph and then have the doc lib with the pdf and some how associate
the pdf with the pic. However when adding a new miracle story, I would
rather not have to go to two placed to put information. Is there anyway
to include all of this in one list? The only columns that I can create
for pictures are either a url field or one that chooses a pic from a
different list within sharepoint. I have not been able to find any sort
of column that will allow for attaching a file to a list.

The pic  lib can have a custom columns for the teaser paragraph and for
the image.
So the document  , teaser paragraph, image will be at the same place.

To display, you can try using the content query webpart on the main
This webpart can get items from the picture library  and display on the
main page. It has several options to change its display layout etc.

Yeah but how do you add a column for a pdf to a picture library?

Custom columns can be added to a picture library  .. not to an individual
document in the library.

To add custom columns, go to Picture library settings, there you will
find a link "Create columns".

I don't think that attachments are allowed on library  list items. Too
bad really, it doesn't seem like it would have cost them much.
