document library audit functionality

Asked By: Stewart    Date: Jun 01    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 783

Is the next version supposed to
have document library audit functionality and/or cut and paste
functionality? We are looking at possibly purchasing these tools from
Syntergy based on the demo's we have seen while getting trained at the
SharePoint Summit. But, before
we go ahead with looking deeper into purchasing these tools, my CIO
would like to know if the functionality is going to be included into
SPS in the near future. Thanks in advance

Cut & Paste functionality  is already there. Simply choose "explorer
view" for any doc lib, and cut, copy and paste any docs+folders from
anywhere to the doc-lib or vice versa.

Don't you loose the create dates/authors and version  history when you
use this approach?

If you’re doing this from doclib to doclib, the create dates will be the date the document  is added to the library  (not the creation date stored in the file system) and the author would be whomever is performing the action. History is not copied but it doesn’t work correctly during this operation (which is why I’m big on removing the Explorer view as convenient as it may be).

What will happen when you copy & paste from one doc lib to another (at least in any experiment I’ve done):

1. The document is copied across from source to destination

2. An entry in the version  history is created in the destination library for each entry in the source document library

3. All versions point to the unique copies of the document in the destination library but they are all the latest version from the source document library

4. Comments for each version are not brought across
