Document library

Asked By: Judith    Date: May 08    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 720

We have completed a migration from WSS 2.0 w/SP2 to SP2007 this past
weekend. We have noticed that the document libraries have a relative
name. How can I change the relative name of a document library to use
the FQDN?

Care to expand on what you mean with regard to a relative  name in comparison
to a FQDN?

My guess is that you need to probably extend the web application and create
an Alternate Access Mapping. Here's a quick blog post on AAMs and it also
links to a series of blog posts by the sharepoint team.

I have been asked by my school to create a SharePoint stie that allows
teachers to upload work into the different departments they work in. I
have created a document  library but they would like it to go into a
shared folders instead of the SQL Database.
So I have created a dcoument library  and a folder on the C drive on the
server im working on, but i don't know how to link the two.

Natively, you cannot do this. There is an external connector API that
you might use to accomplish this, but I have never seen it done.

What's the concern here -- why are they asking for docs in shared
folders in the first place? Is it for your end users? (in which case
it seems like accessing a doclib over WebDAV would be just like
accessing a shared NTFS volume over netbios)? Or is there some
IT/administrative preference for docs to be on a file system (backup?
storage management?)

Can you have them use the "Open in Windows Explorer" WebDAV view
instead of a standard shared folder? It works similar to a network
drive.

we are developing a document  management as a web application similar to
DocumentLibrary of SharePoint.

We are struck at a place, when an user tries to edit and save it back
to our custom web appliation. we wanted to save to back to the same location
from where it is opened, which is not happening.

can anybody please give some insight how sharepoint implements document open,
edit and saving is back to same document library.
I am planning to implement similar kind of functionality in our web
application.

If you will describe what you are trying to accomplish we will try to help. But
we need to know a bit more then just that you are trying to customize a document
library.

I have the following requirement.

"Modified Date" field is updated whenever any column in the library  changes.

But the user requirement is to have that field updated only when document  is
modified.

I think I need to add a custom field in the doc library and inject the date
value whenever the document modifies.

If anyone suggest me to how to go about this, would be a great help.

I am using Microsoft virtual PC with sharepoint server as well as VS.net
installed.

That's a very broad question. What is it that you want to do?
