Document Icons not showing in standard view of doc lib or web part

This is using MOSS 2007 and Server 2008

We have a document library in which the document icons do not show up in
standard view..the only icon that shows is the blank icon..a white rectangle.
In addition, the names of the docs do not have the file extensions either.
However..
In datasheet view, both the icons show and the file extensions are present.
