Document Download Status Bar

Asked By: Larissa    Date: Oct 05    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1296

I have been receiving a very insistant request from my userbase about
providing a status bar when opening a document from a document library
through a web browser. We host many large documents which sometimes
take a few seconds - up to a minute - to load. Has anyone seen a way
to display a status bar or at least processing graphic so users can
tell their request is in progress?

I am not an expert at MOSS, but I suppose you could write an "event
handler" for your document  library that would display  a progress  bar
animated .gif in a dialog box or new webpage, as soon as someone clicks
on a document to open it. If you want to show the "real" download
progress that might require a lot more effort, experts should know
