Document Deletion

Asked By: Veer    Date: Dec 06    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 658

We would like Authors can add and modify documents, but not delete them,
because for publishing a document it is necessary to approve it, but then
it can be deleted for an author directly. Also, it is not possible to
restore a specific document from the backup copy. Do you know if this is
possible? Otherwise, how can I quit the links for deleting a document or
folder from the dashboard site?

The "undelete" web part in the Resource Kit currently in beta may be of use?

I attach the readme.txt for "undelete" in case that helps to see how it
could be used in your situation.

I know that web part "Documents Deleted", but it is not enough for us,
because an author  can delete  a folder and all its documents, just doing
click on the delete button. Then, those documents  are not in any documents
deleted list, because the folder does not exist.
Have you got any idea to remove delete link from the dashboard  on all
folders?

We want people in the organisation can contribute in publishing  documents
(with approval), but they cannot delete files and mainly entire folders.

I have the same problem and I was looking for a way to remove delete  link.
If you know something to do in that case, please tell us.

Can't you set the file system properties so that a user can only add  and
change, but not delete  a folder or file? As far as my understanding
goes, sharepoint just sits on top of the file system and still relies on
the file system properties for basic rights. I'm going to do some
testing, but am positive it will work.

I'll post again when I have something more substantial.

could i modify
SharePoint's program files? They are located under the "Portal\resources"
folder. Then, I found the procedure "DeleteItem" into the file
"TahoeUtils.asp", which does the delete  option. So, just commenting out the
code of this procedure, it is not possible to delete a document  or a folder
through the dashboard  site.

You must know if you change any file located under the "Portal/resources"
folder other than "catalogs.xml" or "DashboardExtensions.vbs" Microsoft
will no longer support your installation.

Roland, documents  in SharePoint Portal Server are into web folders and they
have not the file system properties for rights.

I have seen that in the meantime although I was hoping to
find the files somewhere in the system.

Has anybody found any way of added different roles to the standard ones?
Are the also defined in asp code?

I haven´t tested, but I´ll try too. It sounds like a good idea.
