In a MOSS 2007 site, can a DocLib have .msg as its default document under the
"new" button?

So that you'd get an eM template thingy, fill it in, and punch its send button?

Then, would a "reply" come back to the DocLib?

I really want the "round-trip" experience with an attachment coming back into

what are you trying to accomplish?

I believe what you are talking about is creating a document template, and
having it listed under the new item menu. These templates are based on
content types, and the content types have a template associated with them.

The .msg extention is associated with an email message, and to the best of
my knowledge it's not possible to create a template for this.

A better solution would be to use a custom list, and workflows to send an
email. you could have the workflow capture all of the information that is
being send, and store that in the list.
