Doc Ave from AvePoint

Asked By: Aditiya    Date: Nov 20    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1042

Has anybody used this application from AvePoint? If anybody has, can
somebody please tell me if this application can migrate documents from
SPS v1.0 to SPS v2.0 into SQL? I'm looking for a tool that will migrate
all documents from v1.0 into the SQL database of v2.0. Does anybody have
any recommendations?

From their site:

"It is noted that doc  Ave 1.5 Migrator for SharePoint 2003 WSSDL
only can handle document migration to SharePoint 2003 WSSDL.
Migration to SharePoint 2003 SQL database  will be handled by another
AvePoint's under released product later"

As far as I know no one has released something to do this yet.

Note that SPS 2003 has an in-place upgrade process (part of the standard
SPS2003 setup) that will upgrade SPS2001 Web Storage System document
libraries to SPS2003 "backward compatible document libraries" (BCDL). This
in-place upgrade process kicks in if you run the SPS2003 setup on your
SPS2001/W2K server.

CAVEAT: Make sure you backup your W2K server because this is an *in-place*
upgrade of the SPS2001 Web Storage System including upgrading W2K to Win2003
and installation of SPS2003.

The SPS2003 BCDL is still based on the Web Storage System ...but an updated
version that runs on Win2003. Note that the SPS2003 BCDL doesn't provide
any SPS2001 vintage dashboard support.

There's more details in the whitepaper @

There's a number of people working on migration tools including ourselves
(Parallelspace) that will support migrating content directly into the
SPS2003 SQL content store.

This has been a very painful process. I've gone through this process at
least 5 times now and I still have not gotten it down to 100% completely
working correctly. It's always one thing or another that goes wrong. I
talked to AvePoint and their demo version for Ave doc  2.0 Migrator will
be coming out next week. Their final release product will be available
sometime later this month. According to AvePoint, their tool  will
migrate all documents  into SQL as well as some, not all, metadata. This
will be very beneficial, in my opinion, because this way we won't have
two different version for the document library (web storage system and

On a different note but on the same company:

Are any of you guys getting mails generated by the Swen virus,

Just got good news for Migration by using AvePoint's Migrator 2.0 for
SPS V2 SQL. It seems they have good sense on the process and so far
we passed document with old hitory versions and many meta data for
document profiles,

I like this very much it brought all the meta data to the V2..

One problem is that some special characters, & $ caused the problem
for regration. I talked to AvePoint, they said this is only for Eval
version and SPS V2 does not support those characters.

We are tesing categories now, I will post a result for you later.
