DNS for SharePoint 2007

Asked By: Marie    Date: Dec 24    Category: MOSS    Views: 1182

What is the correct way to configure DNS for SharePoint 2007? We have
multiple wed applications and I assumed that meant we could have
multiple DNS entries pointing to the same farm each going to a different
web app. We have not been able to configure the DNS entry to work with
anything other than port 80. I have quickly reached my (limited) level
of expertise on the server side and was hoping that we are just
overlooking something?

Well, I'll give you a little info and see if that helps.

If you have multiple domain names (not CNAME) pointing to 1 ip address, you

IP addresses, you need to add them to the IP stack on the server and assign
them to the corresponding IIS Web site (AKA IP binding). This is all at the
IIS level.

If this is Web applications inside of MOSS, you will need to use different
port numbers for each application and used managed paths to define the
actual location of the files you are accessing.

I'm fairly new to the IIS configuration game myself, but so far, this
