Displaying PDF icon

Asked By: Elvin    Date: Nov 03    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1023

I have done all the steps to display a pdf icon.

Placing a pdficon.gif file in the images directory
modifying the docicon.xml runing a crawl to reflect
the changes and no go....????

I am not getting the icon in my searches and or list
just in public doc folders...???

Just to be clear - you do see a pdf  icon when you display  a list?

Just in case, attached is a zip file  with a copy of my DOCICON.XML and PDF gif.
This works for me - you can find the entry for PDF extensions near the top of
the DOCICON.XML file.

Did you start and stop the search service and if all else fails, start
and stop the server?

Did you copy your pdf16.gif in the following directory ?

C:\Program Files\Fichiers communs\Microsoft Shared\web server
extensions\60\TEMPLATE\IMAGES

We had a similar problem yesterday. We had named the
icon file  icpdf16.gif. The icon  appeared in the Doc
Lib, but not in searches. We renamed the icon file
to pdf16.gif, changed the entry in the DOCICON.XML,
and did an iisreset. Now the icon appears everywhere
it should. Doesn't seem like the name should have
made any difference, but it seems to work now.

My hat is off to you...I have been trying and trying
and trying...I think I need a toupee I have pulled out
so much hair...!!!

THIS SOLVED THE PROBLEM I DID AS EXPLAINED BELOW AND
RENAMED THE PDF ICON FILE TO PDF16.GIF AND RESET MY
IIS SERVER AND CRAWLED THE CONTENT AND IT TOOK OFF ...

Yeah, I had to do the exact same thing...is there somewhere under
the covers that only allows you to name it pdf16.gif for it to work
properly? IMHO I think it's very peculiar, since one would think
that it should be consistent with the naming convention seen in the
XML file.

I've used just plain "pdf.gif" without trouble.
