Can I display user profile properties in a data view?

  Asked By: Jonah    Date: Jun 25    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 2147

I've been trying to figure how to do this for awhile and I'm stumped.
Hoping someone here can help.

Some background:

In a user's public My Site, you can see their profile properties
displayed. This example displays the user's work phone number.

<SPSWC:ProfilePropertyValue PropertyName="WorkPhone"
class="ms-profilevalue" PrefixBrIfNotEmpty="true" runat="server"/>

My understanding is that Sharepoint knows which user information to
display because it's passed in via URL. e.g.
server/MySite/Public.aspx?accountname=DOMAIN\username

What I'm trying to do is:

I have a list of users by account name. I would like to use a data
view and xslt to display a user's work phone and office from the user
profile properties - these would not be stored in the list, but would
be retrieved dynamically using the ProfileProperty Value. I would
like to do this on the client side.

What I'm hoping is that there's an easy way to add the accountname
parameter to the ProfilePropertyValue (e.g.
<SPSWC:ProfilePropertyValue PropertyName="WorkPhone"
class="ms-profilevalue" PrefixBrIfNotEmpty="true" runat="server"
accountname="DOMAIN\username"/>) but I have tried a few things and
haven't gotten this to work. I'm not even sure that it's possible.
