Display order of listings for Area

Asked By: Cara    Date: Jul 04    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 870

Is there not a way to change the display order of listings for Area
Detail Parts?
For example if I had a "News" listing I wanted to stay on top of the
News Area in SPS... I have tried changing ordering and grouping and it
seems to be a somewhat randomized version of last-added-first-up.

The web part used to display  listings on portal areas, is the Grouped
Listings web part. On the area, such as, News, Home, Support, etc.
these web parts have their names changed - e.g., on the News area  it
is called News Areas. By default these Grouped listings  web part,
displays listings based on their creation date, hence why the listings
appear in last-added-first-up. To alter the ordering, Modify the web
part and alter the 'sort listings by' property. The options you have
are Title, Creation Date, Last Modified Date and Order. So if use
ordering - order  is the option you want.

That took some finagling, but I finally got it to work. I did
notice that the default (General, Highlight, Expert) groupings
definitely get precedence over the newly created Groupings. I couldn't
get it to work the way I wanted  and then I changed the sorting to
Ascending and it came out ok.
...Sorting, Grouping, Ordering, Merrily we go...

If you choose display  listings by order  in the Grouped Listing
webpart, then the group names are displayed in order too. You can
change the order of the groups, by clicking Manage Groups in the
Actions section in the Portal listings  list. You can also rename and
delete the groups Expert, and General. You cannot delete Highlight,
but you can rename it.
